London Football Fans 20/21

London is the world’s football capital, with more than 27 clubs, many of which currently play or have played in the first league. After cancelled seasons due to Covid-19, photographer Alex Amorós documented when the games started again in 2020 – with empty stadiums and fans not being able to see their favourite team live. This unique time in football history has been compiled in his photo book ‘LFF 20/21’.

Alex Amoros’s new photobook titled 'LFF 20/21' was documented during the 2020 and 2021 football season. After the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the Premier League 2019 and 2020, the new season began with the stadium doors closed once again. The project captures 27 London Football fans and 11 stadiums from the 11 clubs in the City of London that have been part of the old First Division or Premier League: Arsenal FC, Brentford FC, Chelsea FC, Charlton Athletic FC, Crystal Palace FC, Fulham FC, Leyton Orient FC, Millwall FC, Queens Park Rangers FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC & West Ham United FC.

The 140-page book also includes a free 72-page fanzine titled 'Live at Wembley 21'. Live at Wembley 21 is a collection of photos taken at both the semi-finals and final of the Euros at Wembley. The zine shows the contradiction between the empty stadiums of LFF 20/21 to one of the biggest events that can happen in the world of football, a semifinal and final of a Euro, all in the same city of London. It is interesting to see the contrast between the early empty and silent stadiums to the later occupied ones, which once again buzz with anticipation. Wembley was the first large-scale event after the pandemic and I wanted to document the explosion of emotions.

The project has been shot on film to invoke feelings of nostalgia from a bygone era and it is my belief that film is the only medium that can truly capture the raw passion of the 12th Man, the crowd. The spirit of Football lies in the fact that it is for everyone. If this photo book and zine sounds like something you're interested in exploring, then you can both preview and pre-order the physical book here.
