Tell us who you are, where you come from and what you do.

I am Lith Li, a Spanish music producer and DJ. My artistic-musical expression draws inspiration from the very genesis of the world, exploring socio-political, economic, and power dynamics in pursuit of equality, all through the union on the dance floor. My DJ sets craft narratives that blend analysis and dance, guiding us on a journey into the RED SEA, a name I’ve given to my DJ sets where I meticulously curate each track.

My imagination and inspiration are rooted in Lilith, the first woman of creation, a figure found in Hebrew, Babylonian and Sumerian mythology. Embracing the feminist iconography of Lilith, I deconstruct societal issues through auditory, visual, allegorical, and artistic messages, aiming for a conscious society that can effect positive change.

For many years, I dwelled in the shadows of the night, and now, I continue along the same path but from the spotlight, creating a unique experience that’s both dark and luminous.

When did you become a DJ?

I embarked on my journey into the nightlife industry at the age of 18. Even then, I observed the artists who graced the clubs where I worked. Music has always been my solace, passion and motivation to persist through life’s doubts. It was only four years ago that I began actively producing and working on my music. Having gained insight into how everything operates from within the industry, I desired to approach it from the artist’s perspective.

Is your kink look an alter ego or do you just dress up?

My appearance for DJ sets is meticulously crafted, far from being superficial. From the outset, I aimed to confront the demonisation, objectification and sexualization that women experience from the moment they step into this world. My intent is to provoke a reaction and challenge patriarchy, capitalism, and societal norms that reduce women to mere commodities.

Latex, which I often wear, symbolises the direct oppression faced by women. It’s a statement that asks why we, as women, are expected to conform to unrealistic and suffocating standards of beauty and desirability imposed by society. My attire isn’t comfortable, nor are the 13-centimetre heels I wear. So, I ask, why do I wear them? Is it for the comfort of the male gaze or to challenge the systemic expectations imposed upon us?

What clubs do you play at – what makes them so good?

I’ve spent a significant amount of time working in some of Barcelona’s most iconic clubs. Subsequently, I ventured into international clubs across London, Los Angeles, Portugal, Belgium, France, and Spain. In recent months, I’ve embarked on a liberating journey, performing at various festivals alongside renowned artists. Additionally, I’ve organised my own event called QUINTAESENCIA, where we explore the three facets of the human mind within a club space.

My extensive travels have provided insights into human behaviour, particularly how music, club ambience and personal choices can influence one’s impulses and actions. It’s the origin of human behaviour that fuels my desire to promote conscious change in society.

What other creative endeavours are you involved in?

This year, I’ve ventured into the world of merchandising, releasing my own line. Furthermore, I’ve unveiled three music videos: THE SNAKE, ECDYSIS and RED SEA. Currently, I’m diligently working on releasing my first physical LP and an intriguing book that will intertwine reflection, music, fashion, and art, though I must keep some details under wraps until the end of the year. But what I can divulge is that I’m organising a new edition of QUINTAESENCIA for December, featuring international artists and a dash of conscious magic that promises to be an unmissable experience. (Mischievous smile* to end the interview).
