Quarantine Park
Chicago-based photographer Kambua Chema started to photograph the top floor of a multi-storey car park during lockdown. A few months later she captured what’s happening at ‘Quarantine Park’, as she dubbed the space.

“For months, I photographed Chicagoans out my apartment window on the 10th floor. I fondly coined the 4th floor of the parking garage, 'Quarantine Park'. It became a fun pastime.”
“There was so much gloom during the pandemic. With most of the world being in lockdown for months and I thought, why not look at the world from the bright side – my typical disposition.”
“Quarantine was not so bad after all. I strategically placed my dining room table to overlook the garage. My camera always laid on the table with a telephoto lens mounted and ready to capture life below.”
About Kambua
Kambua: “I am a Chicago based photographer, instructor with focus on headshots, portraits, events and travel photography workshops.
There are so many beautiful moments in life. Taking the time to really see the fabric behind the lens, is truly remarkable.
For over 15 years, my photography has been defined by fleeting moments and quick glimpses compelling my heart to make photographs. I have always been drawn to people which has made work as a headshot, portrait, and travel photographer very fulfilling. Making a photograph of someone or people that enhances how they view themselves is very fulfilling and has been my goal every time I lift my camera to make a photograph.”
