St. Anna’s chapel
Built in 1754, the small chapel is located right at the edge of the mountain at 1990m above sea level. In 2016 it was struck by lightning which destroyed the altar.
The queen of the Alps
Edelweiss is a mountain flower which is strictly protected and may not be picked. It grows in lime rich mountain landscapes and blooms between July and September. When exposed to sunlight it glows and shimmers – a signal for honey-seeking insects.
Stone age
The natural stone from Vals developed over millions of years under high pressure and temperature deep under the earth’s surface. Its unique appearance of quartz inclusion gives the stone a glittering effect. Traditional houses have to be roofed with stone tiles made of the local quartzite.
