HALL OF FAME

We had fun hanging out with Ricki Hall at our East London studio. The energetic mechanic-turned-fashion model talks to us about his passion for Golf, his first modelling job and how he is coping with the pandemic.

Hi Ricki. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with us today. Can you tell us a bit about you – who is Ricki Hall?

I’m a 33 year old model, actor and brand owner. I was scouted outside Topman at the age of 21 in London whilst I was down there for the weekend for work (I used to be a mechanic). It was just before fashion week so they moved me down within 2 weeks to get me in on the castings and put me to work straight away. It all happened super quick. I am now represented by iDAL.

In 2017 you helped to launch the English clothing brand Indigo and Goods. How did this collaboration happen and what can you tell us about the brand? Interesting name btw.… what does it mean?

The brand was launched in 2017 at the Isle Of Wight Festival by a friend of mine, David Rix. The brand was named after the indigo shirts and other items he was selling. We knew each other since the days of his shop on Newburgh Street and had kept in touch. Over lunch some months later he invited me to collaborate on a new exciting line of gymwear, which later became a permanent part of the brand.

“The biggest lesson I have learned is to focus on my strengths.”

What’s the biggest lesson you have learned since working with Indigo and Goods?

The biggest lesson I have learned since working with David is to focus on my strengths and help the brand with its fashion content and image.

You also work with Captain Fawcett. Can you tell us a bit about the brand and which part you are involved in?

I’ve been working with Captain Fawcett for around eight years now. It all started when they booked me for a job to do some acting in a short film they were doing. The success of the film led on to doing a collab with them called ‘Booze & Baccy’. ‘Booze & Baccy’ is a nod to my late father, John, who the collab name is based on. We are constantly expanding the brand with different products. We’ve got a moisturiser coming out this year which I’m super excited about.

Do you remember your first modelling job?

Yes!! It was with Lyle and Scott, we shot the golf side of the brand. That shoot meant a lot to me as I’m a huge golfer as was my dad, so for me to shoot with a brand that both my dad and I wear was beautiful.

“I was always that guy who dressed a little different to everyone else, sometimes I pulled it off sometimes I didn’t.”

Did modelling spark your interest in fashion?

Fashion has always been with me in some way or other, I was always experimenting with styles as I was growing up, I was always that guy who dressed a little different to everyone else, sometimes I pulled it off sometimes I didn’t, it was always about having fun and pushing boundaries.

What’s your current inspiration. What gets you excited in 2021?

Golf and it’s lifestyle. Since being in lockdown I’ve been playing golf maybe 4/5 times a week and during this I’ve taken a huge interest in its fashion on and off the course. You can have some great fun with golf fashion and now that there is a younger audience the rules on the fashion have been bent a bit.

Does that influence your work, designs, look, style in any way?

Yes of course. There are certain styles and fits in golf that I would love to see in Indigo and Goods. There is a stealth zip top we do which is a great layering piece and I use that as a base layer for the golf course on those chilly mornings.

How did you cope with the pandemic and everything else that’s going on at the moment?

Just keeping a structure as much as possible. Structure has been absolutely key to keeping a sane head during the lockdowns.
